Through its ‘I love Dippy Campaign’, the Museum will transform the Central Hall (Dippy’s home since 1905) into an exhilarating and inspirational space that previews the wonders that lie ahead for visitors exploring the Museum. The Central Hall is the awe-inspiring heart of the Museum that continues to amaze 5 million visitors each year.
The Central Hall will announce the many wonders that lie ahead on a journey through the galleries: the 8 bays will become Wonders bays, giving visitors a snapshot of the natural world and the Museum’s work; specimens will be displayed in new cases, with dramatic lighting and engaging and informative interpretation panels; and new exhibits will display iconic specimens and continue the Museum’s undertaking to open up its vast collections to the public.
The ‘Liter of Light’ project uses recycled plastic bottles as solar light bulbs. The project provides energy to poor families in the Philippines and enables them to be ‘green’ as the technology is very simple and sustainable and the light is free.
